Yogurt Dipped Apple Cinnamon Breakfast Bar

May 22, 2012 by Kristen Smith

Want a quick and easy breakfast bar recipe?!  We know that breakfast is an important meal of the day.  Today I took my favorite ingredients – apples, oatmeal, egg whites, a sugar substitute, and cinnamon and mixed together a tasty breakfast option.  The recipe could be made with any of your favorite fruits.
Did I mention the amazing source of nutrition and minimal calories the recipe offers?  The apples and oatmeal provide an excellent source of fiber, while the yogurt and egg whites add notable protein amounts.  Both fiber and protein will help to keep you satisfied and feeling longer for a longer period of time.
It only takes a few ingredients……

MInutes to mix…….

And there you have it!

This simple recipe is easy for even young children to mix together and bake.  The bars also make a great snack option in between meals or post work-out.  Do not forget to dip the cooked bars in your favorite low-fat plain yogurt!

Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup egg whites
1 1/2 cup thinly sliced peeled baking apples
1 cup rolled oats
3 teaspoons sugar substitute (or 1/4 cup sugar)
2 teaspoons cinnamon
cooking spray
low-fat plain yogurt

Directions:
1.  Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.  Spray a 9 x 9 baking pan with the non-stick cooking spray.
2.  Mix together egg whites, rolled oats, sugar substitute, and cinnamon until well blended.
3.  Stir in sliced apples.
4.  Bake at 350 degrees for 13 – 17 minutes or until lightly browned.
5.  Cool bars completely.  Cut into 8 bars.
6.  Dip one end of bar into yogurt.
