Guilt-Free Chocolate Strawberry Cheesecake Squares

January 27, 2013 by Kristen Smith

The success I had with a previous lower calorie cheesecake dessert, Skinny Chocolate Chip Cheesecake, led me to the creation of yet another.  Perfect timing for the upcoming holiday of “love”!

This “guilt-free” dessert is made with Greek yogurt as a substitute for a portion of the cream cheese, which results in an approximate 90% calorie reduction.  Graham crackers are used for the crust instead of a traditional crust in efforts to reduce the amount of fat (likely butter) used in the recipe.  A dark chocolate drizzle and fresh strawberries not only offer additional flavor, but provide nutritional benefits.  In a previous blog post, Banana Bites, I briefly discussed the benefits of choosing a dark chocolate (at least 60% cacao).

To emphasize the Valentine’s Day theme I used a cookie cutter to form the cheesecake into a heart shape. The heart shaped cheesecake was then placed on a graham cracker square.

For a non-heart themed dessert I would recommend to simply cut the cheesecake into squares before placing on the graham cracker square.

Don’t splurge this Valentine’s Day!  Enjoy this “guilt-free” treat!
