5 Dietitian Approved Frozen Foods for Toddlers

May 29, 2018 by Kristen Smith

If I had all the time in the world, I would prepare for my 13-month old son sauteed vegetables, grilled salmon, or baked oatmeal each and every day.  Offering my son these fresh cooked and nutrition packed foods was my plan before he was born, and then after he was born reality set it.  The reality is I work full-time and my packed schedule just doesn’t allow for that type of food preparation on a daily basis.

Now don’t get me wrong, on the weekends I may cook up cauliflower muffins (recipe coming soon) or pancakes.  But when I am not able to spend much time in the kitchen I don’t hesitate to heat up a frozen food or two.  There is no shame in my mommy game.

Not all frozen foods are created equal.  Some frozen foods contain little to none of the nutrition needed by toddlers.  I strategically choose frozen meals packed with nutrients like protein and fiber or key ingredients such as vegetables.  The fewer ingredients the better – I try to stick to under 6 ingredients when possible.

Today I am going to share some of my favorite frozen foods options that offer optimal nutrition benefits for the little ones.
