Serve your guests a healthier appetizer this holiday season with an Avocado Toast Christmas Tree. The whole grain toast and avocado spread provide nutrition packed ingredients.
Hi Friends!
The holiday parties are in full swing and the sweet treats, and fattening foods, are in abundance. The good news is you can turn that around! Why not mix things up a bit and serve a healthier appetizer like this Avocado Toast Christmas Tree Appetizer? Who doesn’t love a festive appetizer packed with nutrition?!
In case you have missed out on the avocado toast trend, it’s toast topped with an avocado spread. You can use your imagination with toppings for the toast, anything from your favorite veggies to eggs or raw salmon. To keep things simple for this recipe I stuck with cherry tomatoes and yellow peppers to represent tree ornaments.
For the best results, I suggest to prepare this appetizer immediately before the holiday event and eat within 1-2 hours of making. The avocado spread will eventually start to absorb into the toast, leaving the bread slighyly less crunchy. For simplicity, I purchased pre-made guacamole from the supermarket (rather than making my own avocado spread). If you choose to go with the homemade route make sure to add plenty of lemon juice to the avocado spread to prevent browning.
Now lets talk nutrition! To learn more about the health benefits of avocados check out my previous blog post here. Not only does the whole grain bread offer greater satiety, but whole grains may reduce the risk of certain diseases (such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes) and help to promote a healthier weight.
And if you are looking for a few other healthier appetizer check out some of these recipes:
- 4 slices whole wheat bread
- small container of pre-made avocado spread
- 10-14 small cherry tomatoes
- 1/8 of yellow pepper, chopped
- yellow cheese
