I could eat pizza every day if I allowed myself. I frequently attempt to make pizza in healthier forms such as in previous posts like “Guiltless Pizza Soup” and “Bianca Pizza”. When you create a pizza yourself you have the control to lessen the amount of cheese and bread used, which produces a lower calorie food item.
Today’s pizza recipe uses a waffle iron for an imaginative pizza creation. The waffle iron perfectly flattens the bread of choice to produce a crispy and delicious sandwich. I choose to keep the sandwich simple by limiting the fillings to low fat cheese, pizza sauce, and basil. You have the ability to customize this sandwich by adding your favorite pizza toppings such as mushrooms, peppers, turkey meatballs, or spinach. The single serving size allows for a portion control and simple preparation.
This past week I moved into a new place and my lack of foods available in the kitchen led to this creation. I took a survey of the foods available in the pantry and fridge for this week’s blog post and these are the ingredients we had! You can never go wrong with a pizza creation.
So I have now created a pizza soup and waffle sandwich, what will be next?! Stay tuned……
